definitely unexpected

What does it take to make a woman cry
after she cried herself to sleep for a long time
and decided she better toughen up, get through it,
and sort of hasn’t cried since?
Do you introduce her to a handsome,
slightly drunk,
English gentleman just when she’s
convinced herself that staying single is what she needs?
Do you watch her fall in love with this gentleman
(who happens to be a self-proclaimed “major weeper”),
and wait until she decides they can’t be together,
until their attachment is uprooted like a weed in the yard
of a cottage that’s about to be inhabited by its rightful owner?
The only viable choice is to put the woman in a cab
and send her away from the major weeper,
until she starts to feel a tightness in her chest
and a wetness on her cheeks
that’s a little too familiar.
Before you know it, she’ll be telling the driver
to turn around
so she can run along a frozen countryside
to embrace that gentleman
who’s been crying ever since
the door shut behind her.
It will most likely take all of this
to make this woman cry again,
and realize those tears
mean she’s found love that could last.
