God's Water and Sky

pool water in my
ears, pooling and expanding,
blocking out the world
stars stare back at me
peace, quiet, lie on your back
relax and just look
is God here right now?
Have I slowed down enough, Lord?
Gazing at your sky?
friends chatter nearby
but for now I remain here
in my own strange place
hum and you hear birds
your own voice is now foreign
yes, God is still here
push your feet, touch bottom
let the pool water escape
and yes, God’s still here
