These Eyes
By: Meghan Coley
Mixing sauce for a salad
in a blender
is no big deal
until I decide to look closer,
pour the ingredients in,
and place the lid on top.
But then open it up and look
one last time.
Peer down my nose at the spices.
Little specks of color
floating around in
oils, honey, and soy sauce.
Look at the mixture
that has created a green and yellow
swamp of what will taste
delicious once it is blended.
Give it one last look
and remember that
we will one day forever
close our eyes
and not behold this world's
simple wonders.
So look down your nose
into the blender.
Take in what your eyes see
and acknowledge that it is a
gift.
